The US-China Power Struggle

Since the end of the Cold War, the West has strengthened its position on the world stage by maintaining a tight alliance among democratic nations. In 2011 the Arab Spring weakened its grip on the Middle-East, resulting in high levels of emigration from troubled states in the region. As right leaning governments gained prominence across Europe, Donald Trump was elected in the US. He scrapped the rule-book on geopolitics to promote a nationalist agenda. Meanwhile, China has emerged as a powerful nation, one that is expected to the USA in terms of GDP by 2025. But what do we know about this elusive powerhouse? Does China pose a genuine threat to Western democracy? Ronnie C. Chan, one of Hong Kong's most prominent business leaders and Co-Chairman of Asia Society, offers a unique perspective on the subject of US-China relations.
