The Economic Future of Hong Kong

As Hong Kong emerges from a period of political and economic disruption and the Coronavirus, business leaders across the world are assessing the city’s future. With widespread consensus that Hong Kong is at the dawn of a new era, we ask the city’s upcoming leaders to paint a picture of what might lie ahead.

Ming Wai Lau may be a fresh face on the international scene, but he is well-known in Hong Kong. Chairman of one of Hong Kong’s largest property groups, Chinese Estates, Mr. Lau is also active in public affairs both in Hong Kong. He holds LLB, LLM, and PhD degrees from King’s College London and the London School of Economics and is a Visiting Lecturer at Harvard Law School. As Vice Chairman of the Youth Development Commission, Chairman of Ocean Park Hong Kong, and a member of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, Mr. Lau offers unequivocal insight into the inner workings of Hong Kong.

In this rare meeting, Mr. Lau will engage in an open discussion with Bernard Charnwut Chan, who is President of Asia Insurance and serves as Deputy to the National People's Congress of China. The discussion will focus on the economic future of Hong Kong - a conversation moderated by Alan Rosling CBE, an international business figure who was a special advisor to British Prime Minister John Major before serving on the board of Tata Sons and then becoming an entrepreneur. Following the moderated discussion, a live Q&A will be held from a hotel in Switzerland with a small group of Europe’s top business figures.
